The MOST destructive form of insanity is when rich and powerful psychopaths decide that killing everything that lives on Earth is an insignificant consequence of them becoming richer. Even when they already have more money than they can ever spend. Perhaps their motive is to brag to their psychopathic friends that they made more money this year, or killed more life, or poisoned the Earth more, or destroyed the lives of more people. To them, the climate catastrophe that is already here is just bad timing, and life on Earth will have to wait while they lay waste in their pursuit of greed.
The end result is that a mass extinction event occurs in order to satisfy the insanity of a few thousand evil monsters. How much longer will this go on before millions of people rise up, drag these creatures out of their shiny towers and kill them in the streets? Five years from now? Three?
Even one species going extinct is too great a price to pay for ridding the planet of this plague of evil. The psychopaths are not going to change, but the destruction they are causing cannot continue. So the human race is on a collision course between poor and rich, good and evil, sane and insane. The inevitable correction can be an upheaval, or it can be a violent catastrophe. Virtue 3000 has been created to make the transition from the rule of a few insane psychopaths, to the rule of many kind and humane people, easier and with less destruction. It is modelled after ISO 9000 but instead of rating an organization on their accounting competence, it rates organizations on their morality and ethics, in the virtuous fashion.
Of the big 3 ethical systems known to philosophers, Virtuous ethics is the odd one out. It's more adaptive and flexible than Kantism and Utilitarianism, and it accepts the harsh reality that sometimes you have to do bad things to live and fight another day. But you can always do your best, and Virtue 3000 aims to let the world know it when you do.
As ISO 9000 certifies that an organization can be trusted to be competent, Virtue 3000 is a public measure of the morality of an organization. People who are more likely to think ahead and do business to benefit the many, rather than make dirty decisions away from public scrutiny, that benefit only a few.
Every day, thousands of pieces of furniture grade wood enters the waste stream and ends up in landfull. And charitable organizations like ReStore and Furniture Bank won't accept a piece unless it's in great shape. Pieces caught in between fall into a tragic pit of pain for those who feel empathy and indifference for those who don't.
As One Wood is a system that finds the good wood, moves it to a central hub, reassembles it into custom art, and makes lot of people happy to do it. It uses a custom crypto-currency that represents the human effort added at each step. This allows for transforming the sort of effort you are able to do, into efforts that you cannot do.
